Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy Treatment

Just like any other muscles, the pelvic floor can be weak, overactive, uncoordinated or have trigger points. Treatment may include myofascial release, strengthening, downtraining techniques, motor control and biomechanics training. Biofeedback is a tool we can use to retrain your muscles and your motor control remember the pelvic floor can be weak but also overactive! The Initial Evaluation typically runs about 60 minutes with your physical therapist. You will review past medical history, as well as history leading to your primary complaint. An orthopedic exam will be assessed to clear all external musculoskeletal structures surrounding the pelvic floor physical therapy including the hips, lumbar spine and sacroiliac joint. It may be necessary to have the therapist perform and internal evaluation which is performed by observing and / or palpating the perineal region including the vagina and / or rectum. Skin condition, reflexes, strength, muscle tone and PF function will be assessed.
