Symptoms / Causes

Wrist and hand pain can be very painful and sharp and achy in nature. Many times patients also have neurological signs that result in numbness and tingling in to the hand and or wrist injury treatment. At Town PT we believe the wrist and hand pain is caused and originated due to a lack of function causing instability, pain and discomfort to the region.


There are many different causes of wrist pain. It can be due to a functional or structural disorder for example trauma, improper development, muscle spasms, muscle weakness, working posture and arthritis. Other causes include but are not limited to:

  • Developmental dysfunctions
  • Developmental imbalance with muscles
  • Muscular strains
  • Ligamentous sprains
  • Poor ergonomics


At Physical Therapy the doctor will begin with a comprehensive examination which will address the onset, cause, duration, severity, vectors, establish the meaningful task and functional tasks that cause the wrist injury specialist. At this point the cause of the pain will be determined; however diagnostic ultrasonography or an MRI are also very accurate and preferred in determining the stage and extent of wrist pain specialist discomfort if needed will be carried out.

Comprehensive “Wrist & Hand pain” treatment

At Physical Therapy have extensive experience treating wrist and hand pain. Based on a functional evaluation we create an individual treatment plan. Treatment for hand pain will be a combination of manual therapy and physical therapy exercises. We use our expertise in manual medicine and neuromuscular stabilization rehabilitation to retrain and strengthen intrinsic wrist and hand muscles. We will demonstrate simple stretching and strengthening exercises to help prevent and maintain healthy wrist health.
